January Reflections

January is in full swing...
freezing weather and high winds,
 a little fog,
lightning but no rain,
a little sleet,
 single digit  temperatures followed
by
70  degree days...

but what can you say?
It's crazy January!
The calves are handling crazy weather better than the
farmers.

I will say, January also gives time to reflect on some
of the fun times of the holiday season...

and a special Christmas gift of a visit from
my friend Nancy.

Life on the farm just can't get any better when you
have the love of family and friends.
It's that love that keeps us going on the
toughest days.

A Mother's Love

What's not to love about this day of celebrating mothers?

Down on the farm, we celebrate all mothers!

A Mother's Love
A mother's love is special
It's present every day,
A gift that came from heaven
That God has sent our way.
Her job is never ending
She's there all day and night,
To be there for her children
And be their guiding light.
Her thoughts are with them always
Even if they are apart,
Her children have a special place
Deep down inside her heart.
Mother's are a special gift-
A gift from up above,
This world would seem so empty
Without a Mother's love.

Father Love

Father's Day gives us opportunity to celebrate the love our fathers
lavished on us while on earth with us

and to celebrate the blessings provided by being a father!

"For I know the plans that I have for you,
declares the Lord,
Plans for welfare and not for calamity to give
you a future and a hope."
                                                                                            --Jeremiah 29:11

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

"Babies take us on a special journey
into the land of love."

We began our journey with
Hattie Clair Anglin, 8lb.,3 oz.,20 inches long,
April 6.2016.

I'm thankful for the blessing of this first grandchild
                                                                                  and
the  opportunity to welcome the 5th generation to our family dairy farm.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

Although I was truly spoiled on Mother's Day with  roses, candy, an assortment of gifts
and  gathering around the table for lunch together,

I'm most thankful for the daily blessings I experience as a Mother,

working with my family every day on our dairy farm,

and

for the fact that this third generation dairy  farmer chose a city girl !

Happy Mother's Day

My life has been blessed by  this experience called motherhood--
make that double blessed!
It's hard to believe I've had twenty-six years of these blessings!

The older I grow, I  also realize how lucky I've been to have a Mother that has loved and nurtured me, supported and encouraged me, guided me with wisdom and patience and shared her faith in God every step of the way.

Wagon Full of Love

Several years ago I found a small wagon seat stuffed in the back of an old garage on our farm. The wagon seat had been used on a small wagon pulled by a team of mules  to haul wood in the early 1920's by Ryan's grandfather.  The boards on the wagon seat were very weathered and rotten but in good enough shape to sit on the patio and hold a few colorful summer potted plants. A few weeks ago, the wagon finally rotted and fell completely apart. I mentioned to youngest son Casey that I would give up on the wagon and throw it away.  The rotten boards and metal springs disappeared soon after my remark and I assumed it was carried to the dumpster.

Last week I was shocked when Casey presented me with the rebuilt wagon seat. I was speechless and deeply touched by this thoughtful gift.  Casey and a friend with carpentry experience spent several evenings secretly working to rebuild the wagon just for me.  It is a great keepsake for me and our family because it connects us to Grandfather Grover and the establishment of our family farm.  This sentimental gift of the heart is truly priceless and too precious to sit out in the weather but it's perfect for my indoor plants and interesting conversation connecting the past and present. It's not every wagon seat that is so full of love and has a fourth generation story to tell!

Love's Circle

While baking Valentine cookies for my family, I realized that some of the most extraordinary moments of love that I share with my family  are found in the most ordinary times on ordinary days as we work together on our family dairy farm.  On this special day of love and friendship, I wish to share with you a passage from the book Thoughts of Gold written by Leroy Brownlow:

Circle of Love

The more we love the closer we approach the likeness of God.
Build a circle of love. For love changes things. It converts a shack into a palace and turns a hamburger into a feast. It smooths the rocky road, and pulls down the hills. It gives courage because it stands with us. It makes pain less painful, sorrow less sorrowful, and joy more joyful. It takes some of the disappointment out of failure, and puts more delight in success. It does because of its ability to share, and much of what life is all about is sharing.
A ray of love is what we all need--to give it and to receive it. So let love shine and shine and  shine, in me and on you, in you and on me.

                                                                  Happy Valentine's Day!

Mother's Day Gift

A Mother's Love

A mother's love is special

It's a present every day.

A gift that came from heaven

That God has sent our way.

Her job is never ending

She's there all day and night.

To be there for her children

And be their guiding light.

Her thoughts are with them always

Even if they are apart,

Her children have a special place,

Deep down inside her heart.

Mother's are a special gift-

A gift from up above

This world would seem so empty

Without a Mother's love.
