Dairy Farmer's Thankful Thursday

Don't you just love a new baby?
Through the month of December we've
welcomed twenty new babies to the farm.

Each new heifer will be raised to be the next
generation of dairy milking cows on our farm.
This development occurs over a 2 to 3 year period
as each animal matures and gives birth to their first calf.

You might say Christmas gifts are given  year round
down on the dairy farm!

I'm thankful for the gift we receive of watching each calf
grow  and develop into a milking cow that will provide
high-quality milk for our family and yours.

Dairy Q&A

                                                                     Question:

                                                              What is a heifer?

                                                                       Answer:
A heifer is a young cow over one year old
that has not produced a calf.
Heifers  become the milking cows on our farm.

It's always exciting to witness the birth
of the first calf of these magnificent  dairy
animals that we have watched grow and develop
over a  two year period of time
                                  and   cared for  since  birth.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

There's only one thing sweeter than a newborn calf
and that, of course, is twins!

After laboring with no result, this momma received
a little delivery assistance from the Anglin brothers.

I'm thankful for these two heifers that we welcomed to the
dairy farm this morning and the teamwork that made it possible.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

We met more than a little bit of fog this morning in the pasture...

                                                                     I'm thankful for...
the cool August weather that makes life more comfortable
for us and our cattle, the Ayrshire heifer that gave birth to a new heifer
                                                                           and
for these beautiful scenes that are part of our
everyday  life down on the Arkansas dairy farm.

Happy Birthday August!

While families are thinking about the last days of summer vacation and taking advantage of tax-free weekend school shopping, we're celebrating birthdays on the dairy farm!
In the middle of the afternoon on this first day of August, this heifer gave birth to her first calf.
I'm naming this baby...August,of course.
We try not to have too many calves born in the month of  August due to the heat and humidity we experience in Northwest Arkansas   but as you see, we often adjust our plans on the dairy farm.
August and her mother are doing great!

Happy Birthday August!

Don't you just love August?
