Thankful Thursday

April brings more than showers!
We welcomed this new calf just after the showers
and a cool down in the temperature.
As you can see, the calf found a cozy spot on the
hay as her Mother continued to eat before going to
the milk barn.

I am thankful for all the blessings of spring--

new life on the farm,

celebrating our precious Hattie's 6th birthday,

                                                                              and

to live in a country that gives us the opportunity

to seek election  to serve our community.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

Everything was perfect at the Benton County Cleanup...
perfect October weather and happy volunteers.

We filled one 250 gallon container of used motor oil
 and started on the second.

I'm thankful for the Benton County employees who organized
the clean-up event, the many volunteers that spent Saturday
morning helping to keep our county clean and
for the Benton County residents who utilize this service.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

The Bentonville City Council honored my mother,Mary Baggett, for her years of service to the community and in her position as city alderman for the last 12 years.

It was absolutely perfect in every way--especially the dessert reception following the meeting!
( My mother's favorite meal--sweets!)

I'm thankful for this community leader that leads by example in serving others  and always strives to make our corner of the world the best it can be!

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

Playing Christmas music while 4-H members make ornaments  for residents at a local assisted living facility has become one of my favorite traditions of the holiday season.  I'm thankful for the opportunity to share the joy of music and community service with 4-H members and to hear their sweet voices singing Jingle Bells!

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

Last week we attended the opening of the Austin-Baggett Park in Bentonville. It is a fantastic honor for two long serving city council members--Ed Austin and my mother,Mary Baggett.

Austin-Baggett park is located in a neighborhood just down the street  from a house my grandparents lived in and the Ice Plant where my grandfather worked.  It has the feeling of home!

It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday with a park full of family, friends and children enjoying the event.

I'm thankful for my trail blazing Mother who sets a great example for service to community.

Tis the Season for Community Service

Several months ago I was asked to participate in a community service project with the Centerton 4-H Club.  Today was the day for the club's activity.  My job was to provide piano Christmas music at a local assisted living facility while 4-H members provided refreshments  and demonstrated how to make a variety of ornaments for each resident.  As I played a selection of Christmas music, the room was a beehive of activity, joyful singing and happy conversation.

When all the ornaments were made and the last cookies served, a few of the young 4-H members gathered around the piano and asked if they could sing a few songs.  Actually, one member told me they had a "group" that wanted to sing.  We started with "O Little Town of Bethlehem" then jumped to "Jingle Bells" and finished with "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."  There's nothing sweeter than young voices singing robustly without any inhibitions!

As I hurried home to feed calves,I realized that this activity that started eight years ago as a community service project when my sons were 4-H members has become one of my favorite holiday traditions. Community service is all about giving to others and teaching us how to give of our time and talents.  I can always listen to Christmas music on the radio or play music at home, but there's nothing like sharing it with others in this special season of giving!
