Although the calendar still says it's summer, the relaxed summer schedule is coming to an end as the first day of school is approaching rapidly for families everywhere. Even though my boys are no longer in school, I don't think I will ever forget those first of the school year moments of excitement mixed with a little anxiety.
We often struggled with returning to routine bedtime hours and making sure breakfast was not traded for an extra minute in bed! It's been shown that breakfast is a brain booster and an important part of the school success equation. To help ease into the schedule, you may want to offer a Fruity Splash Smoothie as part of the breakfast routine.
You can find more Back to School nutrition tips and nutritious recipes at DairyMakesSense.

Dairy Celebrates National Ag Day
National Ag Day is an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate and bring awareness about the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.
Think about it, agriculture provides almost everything we eat,use and wear on a daily basis. American agriculture is doing more and doing it better.
Dairy farmers today, thanks to science, proven research and technology,
produce a gallon of milk using 95 percent less land and 65 percent less waterwhile producing 76 percent less manure compared with 1944.
Thank a Farmer!!

Dairy Q&A
Question:
Do you pasteurize the milk on your farm?
Answer:
No, milking equipment delivers milk directly from the cows to a refrigerated holding tank to preserve freshness and safety. The milk is then quickly transported to processing plants for continued freshness and safety.
A dedicated "milk hauler" picks up our milk on the farm every other day, regardless of the weather or holiday, and transports it to the Hiland milk plant in Fayetteville for pasteurization, packaging and delivering to consumers in our area.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday
During the month of June, Midwest dairy farmers will donate $1 to Feeding America for each view of Feedin' a Nation video. With your help, we can donate the equivalent of 160,000 meals for families in need.
I'm thankful for the commitment of America's dairy farmers that work seven days a week on the farm to provide nutritious milk and to fight hunger by partnering with Feeding America, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the National Dairy Council.
