Dairy Farmer's Thankful Thursday

We had a population explosion in one night!

You might even say, Christmas came a little bit early.

Eight new calves greeted us Monday morning.

It's not unusual to find one or two during calving season but

we were a little overwhelmed to have eight new babies 

to bring in from the pasture.  

Before each calf is taken to its own hutch, we record 

information about the calf and its mother, give calf vaccinations.

dip the navel with iodine to prevent infection and provide

a warm bottle of colostrum. 

I'm thankful for our employees that

work hard everyday in helping us

care for each calf,

for our two sons that work with us

everyday down on the dairy farm 

and

even though the pandemic has caused

a lot of craziness, 

Santa still stops for milk and cookies  on Christmas Eve!

Don't you just love a new baby?

Through the month of December we've 

welcomed twenty new babies to the farm. 

Each new heifer will be raised to be the next

generation of dairy milking cows on our farm.

This development occurs over a 2 to 3 year period 

as each animal matures and gives birth to their first calf.

You might say Christmas gifts are given  year round

down on the dairy farm!

                                   I'm thankful for the gift we receive of watching each calf
                                     grow  and develop into a milking cow that will provide
                                             high-quality milk for our family and yours.

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas!

It was special in every way down on the dairy farm.

Although we worked our usual schedule of milking the cows

and feeding and caring for cows and calves on Christmas Day,

at the end of the day, we gathered as a family for a 

meal and exchange of gifts. That may seem like a 

very ordinary event, but to me, 

the gathering of those I love is a precious gift.

I'm thankful for the new dairy heifer that we welcomed 

on Christmas Day,

 for all the gathering of family during this Christmas 

season, loving memories of past  family Christmas times

and

 the opportunity to make memories for the next generation.

December is full of celebrations!

I'm thankful for the happiness new life brings, 

for watching the expression of a child's first site of 

Santa riding in the community Christmas parade,

and enjoying  our dairy traditions 

                                         
                                                               down on the dairy farm.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

We didn't have any snow for Christmas but we had plenty of rain.

It was a record measurement for rain across Benton County that  

 flooded  property and damaged roads.

The final rainfall  count down on the dairy  farm was 11 inches within three days.

I'm thankful that we did not lose any of our cows and calves

during this stressful weather event

and 

                                                 that Santa had perfect timing for delivering
                                                   my new rain suit and waterproof boots!

Shine On

Just as I headed out the door to feed calves in the December monsoon weather,

 I received the phone call that was cancelling our church service this morning at 

Vaughn  Presbyterian Church due to flooding roads and hazardous conditions in our county. 

I was all geared to continue celebrating the Christmas season in music 

but since that isn't happening, I thought it might be fun to include the

 words of  Star of Bethlehem and give you one verse and chorus in piano. 

Regardless of the weather, Jesus love shines on.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;

And the government will rest on His shoulders;

I'm thankful for the sights and sounds of Christmas

 that I enjoy each year with my family down on the dairy farm.

Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

My church began the Christmas Advent season this past Sunday by hanging symbols of the season on the tree. Sharing this service with other members of my church is always a  great way to begin this joyous season.
