Dairymom's Thankful Thursday

I've been to Baker Elementary for many different volunteer programs but

this time I was a speaker for Career Day.

Actually, I found out, I was the first farmer that had ever come to 

their Career Day event. Needless to say, I felt pretty special.

It's not every student that is invited back to where their school career began!

I'm thankful for modern technology that allowed me to 

carry our farm from classroom to classroom on a power point

showing  what we do everyday

 to care for our animals and the land we call home

and produce the milk they enjoy everyday at school or home.

                                       Many thanks to our dedicated teachers and counselors
                                      providing experiences like Career Day for every student.

How could you not love the smiles of 160  Pea Ridge kindergarten students?

That was my thought as I watched each child take their turn milking 

 Franny, the Arkansas Farm Bureau cow.

                                       
                                    I'm so thankful for opportunities to provide information
                                           about agriculture by telling our dairy story
                                                                              and
                                            for  dedicated teachers that bring hands on
                                                  learning experiences to their students.

Frannie, the Arkansas Farm Bureau cow, 

 was on her best behavior today as Westside Elementary students  milked for the first time. 

It's always fun to watch the kids try their hand at milking the cow and give them first hand information about dairy farming and Arkansas agriculture.

                                      I'm thankful for the opportunity to share how we work
                                      on the dairy farm to produce high-quality milk and the
                                             importance of agriculture to our everyday lives.

While working to promote Farm Bureau membership this week in our county, 

I've been thinking about all the fun I've had  in a variety of settings with consumers of all ages. 

I consider the Farm Bureau Cow part of my family!

                                        I'm thankful to be a Farm Bureau member and  for the
                                                 opportunities I've had to share our dairy story.

What's not fun about milking a cow or planting a seed?

The students at Grace Hill Elementary learned about Arkansas agriculture from members of the Benton County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and our friends from Arkansas Farm Bureau this week. 

I'm thankful for all of my friends who generously give of their time each year to tell the the great  story of agriculture!

Milkin' Magic Down On the Dairy Farm

June Dairy Month is a great time to "open the barn doors" and provide show and tell for consumers of all ages. A couple of weeks ago, I was privileged to share our farm with young students from the Fayetteville Montessori School. They were very interested in finding out for themselves where the milk really comes from.



After explaining how we clean off the cow's udder and teats before the cow gets milked, several of the children wanted to touch and milk the cow.

It's the perfect way to learn  how milking equipment delivers milk directly from the cows to a refrigerated tank to preserve freshness and safety.

 

It's  the milkin' magic...milk is never touched by human hands.

 everyday down on the dairy farm.
